The Industrial Design Section and the Footwear Section of the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (IBV) developed this CD. IBV is a technology center that promotes and carries out scientific research, technological development, technical consultancy, and training in biomechanics.

The Footwear Section and the Industrial Design Section work together to incorporate tools that will improve product development workflow. This CD brings these tools to traditional footwear professionals.

The tutorials use practical examples that cover using Rhino to work through designing a shoe from original concept, through visualization, to component manufacture. Topics include:

• Creating a last from images, digitizing, and scanning
• Modifying a last model using curve and surface editing
• Creating soles and insoles
• Modeling a complete shoe
• Creating images of the finished shoe models

Studio-Quality Rendering

Present your models like a professional photographer in a studio setting. Learn advanced techniques in lighting, creating materials, enhancing performance, and post-processing images.

Although all images have been made with Flamingo, the techniques can be applied to other rendering tools. The CD includes Rhino models ready to render in Flamingo.

Gijs de Zwart is a graduate of Delft University of Technology, Department of Industrial Design Engineering. Gijs has been using Rhino and Flamingo since the earliest versions for design, exploration, design visualization, and advertising.
